What is a good score in JEE Main to qualify for JEE Advanced?

Candidates scoring above 150 marks in JEE Main can have a fair chance of qualifying for JEE Advanced. The cutoff however is decided by NTA and varies every year.

Taking admission in IITs is the dream of every engineering aspirant but, not every JEE Main 2022 applicant reaches that mark. The fate of a candidate to become eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced is decided on the basis of his/her percentile score in JEE Mains. A JEE Main cut-off percentile score is decided by NTA and all the candidates who have scored above the cutoff become eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced. The cutoff score is different for General, EWS, OBC, SC, ST and PwD candidates. Looking at the previous year’s trends, any candidate scoring above 150 can have a fair chance of qualifying for JEE Advanced.

Of all the candidates who appear in JEE Main, only the top 2.5 lakh candidates in the order of merit get a chance to appear in JEE Advanced. The number of students goes above 2.5 lakh in the case of supernumerary seats. Road to IIT is undoubtedly hard and candidates only with the right approach, dedication and determination succeed in getting a seat.

The percentages of candidates shortlisted under various categories are 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and the remaining 40.5% is OPEN for all. Within each of these five categories, 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates. Candidates can check below the number of candidates and the cutoff score for various years.
